Happy Giving Tuesday! For the first time, the Society for News Design is thrilled to be part of this tradition. As a charity dedicated to enhancing the quality and availability of news graphics and design education we work relentlessly throughout the year to provide the best support for all of our members. It’s time once again to talk music. Very bad music, performed by your industry colleagues. Many years ago, at SND36, the SND Foundation Karaoke Night raised $4,850 — more than double its previous judging record. We came up just shy of that number at SND37 and SND38. Amelia Eramya, a page designer for The Detroit News, was among the attendees at SND Frankfurt last month. She shared her impressions of some of the sessions:

Lisa will be working with Frank Mina and the great team at the San Francisco Chronicle beginning in July.
Ben Pirotte is this year’s recipient of the SND Foundation Internship. This is the second year of a program that matches student candidates with publications that no longer can afford to offer paid internships for visual journalists. This is the first of an occasional series of updates on how his internship is progressing.
Deadlines are looming for two SND Foundation programs to help students to further their education and experience. Don’t miss the deadlines to apply: May 28 for annual workshop travel grants and June 4 for the SNDF Scholarship.
