The SND Foundation is pleased to announce the recipients of travel grants for the Annual Workshop and Exhibition in San Francisco.
Amelia Eramya, a page designer for The Detroit News, was among the attendees at SND Frankfurt last month. She shared her impressions of some of the sessions:
Add Javier Errea’s name to the impressive roster of speakers at SND Frankfurt. Errea is principal of Errea Comunicación, a news design studio based in Pamplona, Spain, and before that has been a reporter, editor and art director at several newspapers throughout the country.
Ole Munk, who speaks at SND Frankfurt workshop next month, will emphasize the role of the designer in a world where audiences crave reliability and familiarity.

After combing through numerous applications, a panel convened by SNDF education chair Darren Sanefski settled on Lisa Donato, a freshman at the University of Oregon, as the recipient of this year’s paid summer internship. Lisa will be working with Frank Mina and the great team at the San Francisco Chronicle beginning in July.
Ben Pirotte is this year’s recipient of the SND Foundation Internship. This is the second year of a program that matches student candidates with publications that no longer can afford to offer paid internships for visual journalists. This is the first of an occasional series of updates on how his internship is progressing.
Deadlines are looming for two SND Foundation programs to help students to further their education and experience. Don’t miss the deadlines to apply: May 28 for annual workshop travel grants and June 4 for the SNDF Scholarship.
