Through the lens: Telling multimedia stories

Starting out as a photojournalist didn’t stop the San Francisco Chronicle‘s Erin Brethauer from crossing into the world of videography.

“You have to listen to your gut,” Brethauer said during her presentation at the #SNDSF Student Day.

Brethauer based her presentation off of a handful of compelling video projects she created. The projects included the “Regulars,” which she shoots and edits herself, and “Last Men Standing,” her nine-month project with Chronicle co-workers.

Her advice for multimedia journalists?

“Find candid moments,” Brethauer said. “Try to show and not tell all of the time.”
