Job Type

The Washington Post’s Emerging News Products team has an immediate opening for a designer who can create bold experiences for our readers. This role will focus on designing for our national tablet and phone app:  “Washington Post Select.”

We are looking for a top-notch visual journalist with experience in a fast-paced news environment. Familiarity with web production and managing work across platforms is beneficial, but not required. We are looking for a person who can think differently about how we deliver journalism for new, national audiences. Strong typography and conceptual illustration skills are keys to this position. Proficiency in Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator is expected. Experience with HTML, CSS, Javascript and Adobe After Effects is a plus.

It is also essential that this person be a team player who is excited about the future of mobile design. It also will help to have a spirit of adventure, as we’ll be experimenting with new approaches on emerging platforms. This position will require working nights and weekends.

This position is based in our Washington newsroom and is not eligible for remote work.

Interested candidates should send a resume and a cover letter explaining your strengths and a PDF portfolio with six examples of recent work to Amy King ([email protected]), Amy Cavenaile ([email protected]) and Tracy Grant ([email protected]) by April 19. Please use the subject line “ENP Designer: Your Name.”
