We are looking for a Data Visualization Designer to help create engaging, informative and accurate data visualizations for use in McKinsey print publications and McKinsey.com. The ideal candidate should be comfortable working with large and complex data sets and be able to work cooperatively with editors and authors to implement creative designs while operating within our style guidelines. This freelance position would be part-time (approx 15-20 hours/week).

 

Typical responsibilities include:

  • Distill complex data into succinct visual messages by reconceptualizing and rebuilding exhibits
  • Work collaboratively with editors and authors to develop data viz content
  • Develop data viz exhibits for a variety of different formats (ie print, web, social)
  • Develop a clear understanding of clients’ visual communication needs, identify areas where new-media skills can best be utilized, and interact closely and collaboratively with editors, and authors to create visually engaging stories and social media posts
  • Be a Brand steward in the implementation of the Firm’s visual identity
  • Provide specialized graphics support for a large and varied portfolio of publications

 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years data visualization/infographic experience
  • Strong knowledge of and interest in data; proven creative and analytical skills and ability to deconstruct charts to create visual stories
  • Excellent visual communication skills: strong grasp of color, composition, etc
  • Fluent in Adobe Creative Suite of products (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign)
  • Fluent in Microsoft Office products (Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Past experience at a news publication or magazine preferred
  • Illustration skills a plus
  • UX design experience a plus
