Veteran journalism educator and indefatigable SND volunteer C. Marshall Matlock died Nov. 28, 2020. As a professor at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University for the majority of his career, he taught and guided generations of journalists.
Flemming Hvidtfeldt, 66, has died. We mourn the passing of the SND Scandinavia president and SND board member, a former editor-in-chief, renowned journalist, traveler and compassionate leader.

8 MSU students are raising support to travel more than 1,000 miles to help four non-profit organizations.
Following a detailed proposal from SND’s Region 16 SND/DACH (German-speaking countries) director Stefan Knapp, the SND board of directors voted to host the 2014 annual workshop in Frankfurt, Germany. The motion was accepted Wednesday in Cleveland with a unanimous vote at the fall SND board meeting, pending a formal contract letter. The workshop will be September 25-27, 2014 in the Frankfurt am Main Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Kameha Suite.
The Society for News Design will hold its 2013 annual workshop and exhibition in Louisville, KY.
The Louisville Design Studio will serve as hosts for the workshop, in conjunction with the Louisville Courier-Journal, with support from the Gannett Company and its other four design studios, according to the formal bid from Arnold Garson, President & Publisher of the Louisville Courier-Journal and courier-journal.com. The proposal was accepted by a majority vote of SND’s board.

Judging of the 33rd edition of the World’s Best-Designed™ newspaper — or Category 1, as we like to call it — segment of the Best of News Design™ begins today in Syracuse, N.Y. The judges for the other categories of the competition have found their way home.
We now have five new judges, all with fresh eyes, who came as far away as China and Denmark. They are ready to review the 230 entries vying for the top honors of World’s Best. The coveted award will honor work from 2011, with a focus on the complete newspaper experience.
