The SND Creative Competitions have both concluded for the year, and while it is unlikely that The Society will gather for our annual conference in-person this year, we are still excited to bring our members and community together and highlight some amazing speakers and showcase their award-winning work.
In fact, we hope to do this even more frequently than just once a year.
Building on the success of the first virtual conference, SND will continue to share ideas and knowledge through a new monthly virtual series, “Creative Conference Calls.”
About This Series:
The concept: A moderated 60-90 minute conversation with various guests on specific design and industry topics. We will explore interesting projects from around the world, talk with makers and visual leaders, and allow time for questions and less formal networking among registrants.
When: The third Wednesday of every month at 12pm ET starting May 19.
The Creative Conference Calls series is free to all current SND members, as well as students and educators. Not an SND member but want to attend? Don’t worry, each session will be available to attend for a small registration fee of $10.
Can’t make a session live … we have you covered. The series will be recorded and available for registrants to watch on playback after the live presentation, whenever they like.
You must register to get access to the session and its recording.
Meet the Makers of Best In Show
At SND’s digital competition, the judges recognized the work of three publications of different newsroom sizes as Best In Show. Hear from the publications how each project developed, the thought process and impact of the project on their communities, but also those who worked so hard on them.

Q: What if I miss a session?
A: We will be recording all of the sessions. They will be available for playback.
Q: Will I need a special technical set-up to view the virtual conference?
A: We will use common web-based tools; links and passwords will be shared in advance of each session. Attendees will not incur additional technology costs.
Q: Will I be on-screen?
A: We miss seeing all of you! While we encourage attendees to use the video option, there will be an option to leave your camera off.
Q: I want to volunteer. How can I be involved in the Creative Conference Calls?
A: Yes! We’re eager to have help in any way you can join us. What do you love to do? Bring us your talent and passion and we will find a great outlet for your time and energy. We are looking for moderators, chat facilitators and session monitors for every session. We also need help promoting and marketing the sessions.
Send us a message if you want to volunteer: [email protected]
Q: Can I pitch a session?
A: Absolutely. We are always looking for engaging session topics and ideas. Be as creative or expansive as you’d like. What are you interested in? What do you want to know more about? We love new ideas. We love to share tips, tricks, best practices, and inspiring and innovative solutions — but most important, we want to know what you are doing, how you are doing it and share that with our global community.
Just send a message and your pitch to [email protected] with the subject line “Creative Conference Calls Pitch.”
