In Russia, staying poor while being in power is considered bad taste. Therefore, the only person who seems to be embarrassed by their own conspicuous consumption is our Patriarch. In 2009, his PR service caused a nationwide merriment when they released a picture where they photoshopped away his $30,000 Breguet, but forgot to edit its reflection on the shiny tabletop.
