SND’s Region 19 is happy to partner with organizer WAN-IFRA in presenting an information graphic workshop in Chennai, India.
Workshop leader Juan Velasco is co-founder and creative director of 5W Infographics and is National Geographic magazine’s former art director and senior editor for art and graphics.
Juan will guide editors and artists in learning to conceptualize and execute graphics for their publications. The hands-on workshop will focus on the full cycle of visual thinking – from gathering information, research, analyzing the data, planning the graphic and sketching all the way through execution. More about the workshop leader: Juan Velasco also worked as a graphics artist for El Mundo (Spain) and as the Graphics Art Director for The New York Times. Juan has won over a hundred Society for News Design and Malofiej awards (including the Best of Show Award in 2013), as well as awards from the Society of Publication Design and the American Institute of Graphic Arts. He was also a Pulitzer Prize finalist as part of a team of writers and visual journalists of The New York Times. Since 2001 he has been an instructor for the “Show, Don’t Tell” data visualization workshop, part of the leading Malofiej conference.
