Olympics Roundup: Day 3

A quick glance around the London 2012 horn today and a request for U.S. outlets to share their presentations from the gymnastics gold and Phelps tying the record with us at [email protected]

Visualizing the Games

Alexandra Pappas (Seed Media Group) shares with us the latest endeavor from visualizing.org — a joint effort with GE to demonstrate the power of data at the Olympics. The above excerpt, for example, traces the path of the Olympic torch for more than 75 years. Alexandra writes:

Our latest challenge with GE asked participants to use data and design to contextualize the London 2012 Olympic Games. As a result, users submitted 29 entries around a variety of topics from the relationship between a country’s medal count and GDP to the number of gold medals awarded for each sport throughout the years to the mentions of a country on Twitter during the Games.

Winners will be announced October 13. Voting is ongoing, and sharing and embedding is easy.
