Tell us how SNDF has helped you

Paul Wallen and David Wright Jr.
Paul Wallen received an SNDF training grant to attend the Nashville Web Design Boot Camp (taught by David Wright Jr., pictured, and Tyson Evans) in March 2009.

The SND Foundation has helped a lot of people in the past:

• Edmund C. Arnold and SND Foundation scholarships for university students
• Travel grants for students to attend annual workshops
• Travel grants for the Student Designers of the Year to attend annual workshops
• Training grants for unemployed SND members
• Sponsorship for speakers at minority journalist organization workshops
• Sponsorship of several training events

Were you the lucky recipient of one of these forms of help SNDF offers each year?

Then let us know how this money helped you. Did you meet someone who hired you? Find a life-long friend? Learn new skills that pushed your career forward?

Please leave your comments below or e-mail Denise M. Reagan.

We can’t wait to hear from you!

About Denise M. Reagan

Denise M. Reagan is SND Foundation president, Assistant Managing Editor for visuals at The Florida Times-Union/ and an adjunct professor at the University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications.

I received a travel grant that allowed me to attend SND|Vegas while I was still at Ball State.

During the conference, I had the opportunity to meet a designer at the Washington Post, Jon Wile, who was nice enough to buy me lunch and spend a great deal of time reviewing my portfolio. Even though it has been awhile since Vegas, Jon has still kept in contact with me as I’ve looked to start my career. He has gone far above and beyond what he had to.

I also distinctly remember attending one of Stephanie Grace Lim’s sessions on how to approach creative/conceptual thinking. The things I learned in her session has directly resulted in at least two pages I actively show in my portfolio.

Beyond the professional development, I met three other extremely talented student designers that I still keep in touch with regularly today — Bridget O’Donnell, Allie Ghaman and Colin Bridge.

To say the least, that travel grant afforded me a lot of opportunities that I would have not been able to experience otherwise.

I received the travel grant twice. SND Orlando 2006 and SND Boston 2007. Thanks to SND I had the opportunity to meet The Poynter Institute and received the summer fellowship. During the time that I spent at SND Workshops I met AWESOME people like @couch, @brigers, @ninamehta, @billykulpa, @adinges and plenty other students that now have bright careers.

Thank you SND! and please let me know how can I help you anytime.
