I am pleased to announce that we’ll be appointing a new Region 4 Director –- a position that became vacant when Chris Courtney accepted the Education and Training Director position.
We’re grateful that a long-time friend of SND has offered to step in.
Mauricio Gutierrez, currently Features Design Director at the Detroit Free Press, has in his twenty-year career designed and consulted for newspapers in North America, Europe and Asia and lectured on innovation and features design at SND workshops and at conferences and universities in several countries. For the twenty-eighth edition of the Best of News Design, he judged in the features and illustration categories. His work has been recognized by the Society numerous times.
I’m sure many of you know Mauricio and his work. He’ll bring a high level of enthusiasm to this role. He’s a great designer and an innovative thinker.
“I’m very excited about this new challenge, particularly during this new decade and all the changes that are happening in the Society,” said Mauricio. “I feel very fortunate to being working with a great group of journalists committed to making SND a relevant organization during these turbulent times.”
As a regional director, Mauricio will be a member of the Board. He’ll plan training events and communication for the region and represent those members’ interests in the Society’s overall planning.
Please join me in thanking Mauricio for taking on this role.
