Wired creative director Scott Dadich explains his Law of Optical Volumes -- aka, zen and the art of kerning. A geekily sexy theory -- especially when applied to the beautiful hand-cut type from Hoefler & Frere-Jones used throughout the recent Wired redesign. Scott's definition:The Law of Optical Volumes states that the area between any two letters in a word must be of equal measure throughout the word, and remain consistent throughout the body of text.
