“SND created a community that championed visual journalism from the start; it brought us all together, and has kept us all together. When big news breaks, or a big event happens, I still react with “I can’t wait to see what they do with this, both online and in print.” Some of my best friends in the world have come through SND, and for that, I’ll always be grateful.

My favorite memories? Two come to mind. The first was, as site chair for the workshop, introducing the great Ben Bradlee as our keynote speaker at SNDC in 2003. That was a tremendous honor. The room was spellbound on every word Ben said, starting with his opening line of “The fact that I am addressing a group of designers is absurd.” He brought the house down. The second was getting to host the awards banquet as SND president in my hometown of Boston in 2007. It was a great week, and a great night, for SND. (And the Red Sox won the World Series that month, too. That was a very good month.)”
