Creative Manager, Association Communication

Position Summary

The Association Communication department comprises internal and external communications within the AAA federation of 39 independently operated AAA clubs and with the national media. This position manages the design and production functions for all Association Communication and Public Affairs projects, including Interchange magazine and other publications. Manages development and delivery of projects for both external and internal communications as part of an integrated communications strategy. Serves as creative advisor to business line department heads and oversees all aspects of graphic design and visual presentation. Works closely with Content Strategy and Digital Media managers on communications to the association’s 45,000 associates and executives, with a goal of fostering effective internal communication and information-sharing and to protect the AAA brand. Co-leads integrated, cross-departmental team responsible for communications to clubs, members, the public and the media related to AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety and other research projects and initiatives. Oversees Association Communication Specialist position in setting goals and delivering high-quality communications. Participates in project-planning meetings and provides art direction for all projects from inception to completion.

Reports to Director, Association Communication.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Manages the design and production functions for all Association Communication projects, including Interchange magazine and other publications. (25%)
  2. Works with Content Strategy and Digital Media managers on communications to the association’s 45,000 associates and executives, with a goal of fostering effective internal communication and information-sharing and to protect the AAA brand. (20%)
  3. Serves as creative advisor to business line department heads and oversees all aspects of graphic design and visual presentation. Ensures appropriate visual representation for all Association Communication products by using advanced graphic arts skills and experience. Manages development and delivery of projects for both external and internal communications as part of an integrated communications strategy. (20%)
  4. Co-leads integrated, cross-departmental team responsible for communications to clubs, members, the public and the media related to AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety and other research projects and initiatives. (15%)
  5. Supports the President and executive staff by creating presentation and communication materials as needed. Acts as consultant for national office staff, clubs and departments seeking assistance. Participates in project-planning meetings and provides art direction for all projects from inception to completion. (10%)
  6. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of industry trends and appropriate technology in the graphic arts to serve as a key visual arts resource for Association Communication. Researches, purchases and maintains appropriate software and other computer equipment. (5%)
  7. Presents and protects the AAA brand in compliance with the Brand Management Guide. Consistently maintains the AAA brand usage in Association Communication products.  Maintains awareness of AAA strategies, products/services, trademarks and association structure. (5%)

 

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in graphic arts or a related discipline and 7 to 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Creative and innovative perspective and advanced, comprehensive knowledge of the graphic arts industry, including extensive knowledge in publication design.
  • Advanced knowledge of and experience with Adobe Creative Suite and related graphic design tools and resources.
  • Ability to work with and manage creative artists and production personnel in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; collaborative leadership style.
