The importance of news design spread throughout the world giving birth to three professional affiliates. In 1985 SND/S was founded in Bergen, Norway. Twenty-one designers from 12 Scandinavian newspapers gathered starting the Scandinavian division. The group appointed a provisional board of directors and backed the creation of a quarterly newsletter and an annual workshop for the region. Currently, the division has 117 members. Two years later, SND/E was founded in Spain at the First Seminar on Press, Design and Computer graphics. SND/E organizes the well known Malofiej Awards on Infographics yearly. Today, there are 92 members in this region. Our third affiliate currently has 91 members.

SND's purpose is simple: to contribute through design to the improvement of newspapers. We believe that student organizations have an additional goal: to contribute to the future improvement of newspapers by encouraging and educating college students in newspaper graphics and design.

We have always made education a top priority and we want you and your students to join us. We’ve made it easier (and cheaper) for you to form a student group affiliated with SND by reducing student dues and offering other educational support. If you get at least 6 students (or more) to form a group, those students can join SND for just $25 each and the faculty adviser for your school group gets in for free!
