UNOFFICIAL RESULTS: 32nd edition of the competition is complete

At the conclusion of three very long days of judging at Syracuse University (the 22nd time it was hosted here), the Best of News Design™ print competition is now complete. A total of 10,515 entries were submitted this year in categories 2-19, resulting in 831 award winners. They were reviewed and selected by a panel of 21 U.S. and international judges. What follows is an UNOFFICIAL break-down of the winners. (The database of winners still needs to be reviewed, proofed and finalized in the coming days. It will be posted officially on www.SND.org as soon as possible).
Raising our glee — and mon-ee — for SNDF

Many people started out the night insisting that they would not sing. By the time things wrapped up, most of them had succumbed to the coaxing of the crowd. As the last seconds of the Super Bowl ticked away, SND Karaoke Night kicked off to raise money for the SND Foundation. We collected $2,344 in donations with about $1,700 more in pledges.

Northwestern’s Sisi Wei named SND Foundation Scholarship winner

Each travel grant pays $720 toward attending the Annual Workshop in Denver. Travel grant applications are due May 29. The SNDF Scholarship is $2,000. Scholarship applications are due June 12.
GOLD: Compelling illustrations portray rapists and their victims

The features judges gave this series of illustrations depicting rapists and their victims a gold medal. They recognized how difficult a topic this is to tackle. Most publications would play it safe, but this one walked the line in tackling this concept with a visceral edge.
