Organization

The Society for News Design was incorporated in Pennsylvania May 22, 1979, as a 501(c)(6) non-profit corporation. Under the IRS guidelines, a 501(c)(6) organization is a “business league,” wherein members band together to share information and establish relationships based on the business or industry they are in. Contributions and dues to (c)(6) organizations are not tax deductible; however, they are generally deductible under U.S. law as a business expense.

SND has more than 2,000 members around the world. Headquartered in North Kingstown, R.I., USA, SND has regional affiliates in Scandinavia, German-speaking Europe, Spain, and French-speaking countries. SND also has student affiliates at colleges and universities. Membership is open to anyone with a professional interest in news and news design.
