Indiana University senior Will Royal doesn’t usually draw people from life, but that changed this weekend at SNDLOU.
“I probably have the strangest history on Google Image search from things I’ve illustrated,” Royal said. He’s been an illustrator, among other things, for the Indiana Daily Student since his freshman year. Steve Dorsey, a vice president at the Austin American-Statesman, gave him the idea for the illustration project at the critique session on Thursday.
Royal’s favorite is of The New York Times’ Jennifer Daniel. “I wanted to get a feel for who she was first. That was going to determine the expression on her face. She seemed kinda snarky and kinda hip,” he said. “So, I drew her with a smirk on her face.”
