Chelsea & The City: Never forget to be inspired

Sometimes I forget to be inspired. That might sound lame and maybe it’s just me. But sometimes I get going and just forget to take a few minutes everyday to really take in what’s around me and let it inspire me and let me brain be creative. I was thinking this morning about some of the most inspirational things that really made an impact on me. The first thing I remembered was a video that one of my friends showed me in school that became the tipping point of me wanting to work in magazine design.

Meet, Collect.

Collect magazine is a beautiful publication out of Australia that celebrates people, places and community. Not only did the simplistic beautiful design of this magazine inspire me, but the people behind it; a hodgepodge of journalists, photographers and designers that came together to create something unique. They didn’t follow a magazine mold or do something we’ve seen a million times. For instance, I absolutely love their cover. They reinvented something that is very easy to repeat. Sure there’s a really easy formula for a magazine cover, but they threw out anything they had seen before and made it their own. It is smart, simple and compelling – I’ve never seen anything like it. They brought their ideas together and created something innovative, special, inviting and personal.

Last year when I was in London I was lucky enough to come across a few of them in a little design boutique. I was ecstatic (to say the least). The paper was exactly how I imagined it, it fit in my hand perfectly and it even smelled perfect. This is the kind of publication that reminds me to be creative and never fall into a mold. There’s always a new way to see things – and Collect does just that.
