FRIDAY DEADLINE: 2013 SND officer elections open for nominations

As journalists we cover, explain and illustrate politics and elections all the time. But once a year the Society holds its own elections.

Many of you have gotten a lot out of your connection to SND over the years. Some of you have also given a lot in service. Now is your chance to formally participate and help shape the future of SND.

The Society for News Design is seeking nominations for the office of Secretary/Treasurer for 2013. This is an open-ballot position: anyone who is nominated, meets the requirements of the position and chooses to run will appear on the ballot.

Nominees must be members of the Society in good standing, with a history of service to the organization. They should also have a record of managing people and a working understanding of financial operations.

We will accept nominations through Friday, Aug. 10. Please send your nominations to: skomives@snd.org.

Voting will begin on Sept. 10, and continue through Oct. 11.

Election results will be announced during the annual business meeting of the Society, in Cleveland on Friday, Oct. 12.

The SND offices of President and Vice President will also appear on the ballot. The Society operates a leadership “ladder” where the Secretary Treasurer is automatically nominated to be Vice President and the Vice President to be President. Those nominees still must be elected, but the two higher offices generally run unopposed. Online balloting does allow write-ins.
