Karsten Ivey of the Fort Lauderdale, FL Sun-Sentinel has been named Society for News Design’s regional director for the south eastern U.S. The region includes includes: TN, NC, SC, GA, AL, MS, FL, LA, AR, PR, TX, OK
“I’m very excited and looking forward to getting started, ” said Ivey.
Ivey began his career at the Florida Times-Union, the newspaper in his hometown of Jacksonville, as a graphic artist in 1995, where he produced print and interactive graphics. In 2001, he moved to Fort Lauderdale to join the Sun-Sentinel as a senior graphics reporter.
Five years later, he was promoted to the assistant graphics director’s position, where he manages daily graphics and enterprise projects. Today, he leads the department producing static, Flash and animated infographics for the paper and it’s online site, sun-sentinel.com.
“We’re very excited to welcome Karsten to the board,” said Steve Dorsey, SND president. “He brings a rich visual background with him and new energy and ideas.”
Ivey replaces Melissa Angle who was the long-time Region 3 director; she became the education and training director for the Society last year.
