WAN-IFRA – SND conference: “Design for the News and Magazines Publishing
WAN-IFRA, in cooperation with the Society for News Design, are organizing
the third edition of its international conference dedicated to design for
newspapers and magazines, to be held in Paris, France, on 19 May next.
The objective of this conference is to examine the last trends in design
that add value to editorial content. WAN-IFRA, the World Association of
Newspapers and News Publishers, has selected the most relevant initiatives
and best experiences of media groups in creativity, originality, and
The conference will examine the print, web and mobile projects of leading
media brands, and look at major campaigns that aim to surprise readers by
breaking the patterns of the traditional newspapers.

Michael Maiquez, Art Director for Paris Match, who will discuss the Paris Match app for the iPad and the challenge to its team: using the new platform to enhance the magazine’s special character, photographic legacy and storytelling skills, without changing magazine.
Mark Porter, principal at Mark Porter Associates and former creative director of The Guardian, who will discuss the challenges posed for designing for the four main news platforms – print, web, mobile and tablet.
Jean-Luc Iseli, Project Manager for Ringier Romandie, who will introduce some digital initiatives of the Swiss group.
José Juan Gamez, art director for the sport daily newspaper Marca, will share its experiences with using visual as a new way of information and
Alvaro Valino, head of infographics department for the Spanish newspaper Público, which uses graphics as part of its strong visual approach in communicating news.
Javier Errea, principal of the design studio Errea Comunicación in Spain, will introduce 10 refreshing ideas from recent Iberian news design.
Registration fees – 650 Euros for WAN-IFRA members and 850 Euros for non-members plus VAT. A third registration from one company is free of charge. Simultaneous interpretation will be available in English and French.
