IT’S KARAOKE NIGHT: Challenge your friends from your own couch

Karaoke and newspaper, two great disciplines that go better together. POLL: What's your go-to karaoke song? Tweet your replies to @sndkaraoke / hashtag #sndkaraoke (Icon by SU student Kuan Luo)

It’s Sunday in Syracuse — and that means it’s time for the SND Foundation Karaoke Night. In addition to tables of impressive work, chips, long days, sore feet and migraines, karaoke has been added to the  many traditions surrounding the competition judging.

Every year we raise an impressive amount of money from the people who come to Syracuse, but now we’re expanding the fun so you can play along at home. You can contribute money to SNDF and challenge your friends and colleagues to perform songs.

Just visit our donation site here. Make a pledge. Then send a Tweet with your song request to @sndkaraoke. We’ll be sharing the performances and photos through Twitter and on snd.org.

This year, our goal is to raise $6,000 to fund the new SND Foundation Internship program. The Foundation will award a paid internship to a student and a publication or website that otherwise could not afford to employ a paid intern. We will announce the details of this program later this month.

In addition to this program, the Foundation provides training grants for SND, university-level scholarships, travel grants for students to the Annual Workshop & Exhibition, grants to the student designers of the year, and outreach to minority journalists and journalism students at universities with large minority enrollments. The Foundation also provides research grants for projects on the future of journalism developed in partnership with other journalism organizations.
