Pendergast has more than 22 years experience in the design field as well as many years helping Matlock and the competition, according to Matlock, who himself has directed The Best of News Design Creative Competition for more than 20 years.
“Becky will make an excellent coordinator, and she’ll work hard in helping me do the many things required to continue the excellent quality competition for SND,” Matlock said. “She is the perfect person to help us get the job done in this international news competition that gets entries from both newspapers and magazines.”
Pendergast’s has worked in creative and management roles at nonprofit and corporate organizations, and small mom-and-pop companies. She has designed and art directed for print and for Web, including at several newspapers and magazines.
In addition, she has created an iPad app. Her role at the Massachusetts Horticultural Society allowed her to design all promotional materials for the New England Spring Flower Show, a major annual event attracting more than 100,000 people nationwide and the second oldest and largest of its kind.
She has also designed, managed and executed several newspaper redesigns during her 15 years in the newspaper industry. She has a bachelor’s degree in communications from Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania.
