Chris Courtney to lead SND’s training efforts

Dear colleagues,

I am excited to announce that Chris Courtney has agreed to be our new Education and Training Director.

Many of you have witnessed Chris’s contagious enthusiasm. Last year, he organized several great training opportunities in Chicago: a very successful meet-up and a well-attended Web design boot camp.

Chris is the perfect leader for our training efforts at this particular time in our industry. He’s a former print guy who has effectively made the transition to multi-platform designer (for Tribune Interactive).

While most will be familiar with his work helping launch – and later, visually lead – RedEye, Chris also made stops at the Tulsa World, Indianapolis Star and the Chicago Tribune along the way.

Chris has taught at Quick Courses from Jacksonville, Fla. to Shanghai and has presented at our annual workshop in Orlando and Las Vegas.

In addition to his educational efforts within SND, Chris has been an instructor at Medill and Columbia College Chicago.

Because of this broad experience, Chris has a firm grasp of our members’ training needs. He also has strong organizational skills, limitless energy and an optimistic view of SND’s future.

Chris, himself, says it best: “With so much upheaval in our industry, I believe that pockets of enormous opportunity are beginning to open up. With the right training, our membership is well positioned to tap into those opportunities and that’s why it is vital that SND be there assisting in that effort. Having the chance to be part of that is why taking this new post is exciting to me.”

Please join me in congratulating (and thanking) Chris!

Note: We’re seeking to replace him as Region 4 director as soon as possible.

Thanks,

Kris Viesselman

SND president

P.S. A big thanks to Denise Reagan who is helping with the transition while she takes on her new responsibilities as Foundation President.
